New GIZ PHL resident director visits Mt. Apo Natural Park Protected Area


KAPATAGAN, Digos City, PH, December 12 — Irina Scheffmann, the new resident director of GIZ Philippines, visited the protected area Mt. Apo Natural Park (MANP) and interacted with the stakeholders and partners on site.

The visit marked the first “official” act of Scheffmann in the Philippines.

COSERAM Principal Advisor Peter Hauschnik and Chief Advisor Nicole Bendsen accompanied Scheffmann during the visit, which was highlighted by the dialogue with MANP stakeholders and COSERAM partner government agencies.

During the dialogue, Kapatagan Barangay Chairman Barangay Santiago Morales Jr. presented the barangay’s profile, especially the issues and challenges inside the MANP, which the MANP PASu and Davao del Sur PENRO said is being addressed through the DENR’s activities.

The PASu and PENRO also presented the milestones achieved in cooperation with the GIZ-COSERAM in protecting the MANP as well as the issues and challenges of the DENR as implementing agency.

The indigenous peoples of MANP were also present during the dialogue and were given ample time to make their own presentation. Datu Manapol, IPMR of Davao del Sur, presented the IP status, activities and cooperation with GIZ-COSERAM through the NCIP.
