CAGAYAN DE ORO City, PH — The new chairperson of the Mindanao PAMB Network and regional executive director of the Environment department in Northern Mindanao has move to mainstream the Network that was initiated and established by the region with the help of the GIZ-COSERAM Program in 2015 into the department’s program.
During the February 5 meeting with the Mindanao PAMB Network technical working group (TWG), DENR-10 RED Arleigh J. Adorable agreed that it is very important to mainstream the network in the DENR program to sustain it.
Adorable said that having the DENR assistant secretary for Mindanao Field Operations as its champion will greatly boost the Network’s chances of sustainability and replication to the rest of the country.
He said that the milestones needs to be packaged well and endorse to the secretary for budgetary requirement. The secretary can then assign focal persons in the regions and for the whole Mindanao.
“It is an advantage that the ASEC for Operations in Mindanao will have an office in DENR-10. We will have a chance to bring out our initiatives and plans,” he stressed.
Adorable is now the new chair of the Mindanao PAMB Network, taking the mantle from its “founder” Dr. Felix S. Mirasol, who established the Network with the help of the COSERAM Program in 2015 when he was still the assistant regional director for Technical Services of DENR-10.
Despite the change in leadership, the Network’s chairmanship remains with DENR-10.
Adorable encouraged everyone to continue the good work, adding that he is very confident that this will result into improvement of the effectiveness and efficiency of managing protected areas in Mindanao.
The meeting discussed the beginning of the Mindanao PAMB Network, the various activities it has undertaken, the milestones that have been achieved, and the challenges the Network has gone through as well as its approach to capacitate the PAMBs all over Mindanao by way of sharing and exchange. The planned activities for this year were also discussed as well as the challenge of sustainability.
The role of Bukidnon State University (BukSU) in the Network as well as the university’s contract with GIZ-COSERAM were also presented in details to Adorable.
Adorable received well the responsibility and congratulated the TWG for the success of the network.
All the six regions in Mindanao, except the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), were represented in the meeting.
